Getting there

Located half an hour drive from Malindi airport, Watamu is easily accessible from Nairobi and other East African destinations.

Flying

Local flights fly into Malindi several times a day from around 70 USD.  Flying from Nairobi to Mombasa is approx. 50 USD but you will need to take a two-hour taxi journey.

Train

The SGR Train travels from Nairobi to Mombasa twice a day. It’s extremely affordable, relatively eco-friendly and a cool experience. If you are lucky you can even see elephants and zebras in Tsavo! The morning train takes 6 hours.  Local tip: get out one stop before Mombasa at Marikani to avoid the city traffic and reduce time on both the train and in the taxi.
Tickets cost 3000 adult/ 1500 kids in first class and 1000 adults /500 kids in second class.

Sealife

Watamu’s white sandy beaches are stunning but what will impress you even more is the immense amount of sea life that its blue waters behold. If you really want to experience the magic of the Indian Ocean to the full extent, you should plan a visit to Watamu Marine Park. Watamu Marine Park and Reserve is one of Kenyas  first marine parks. The parks choral reefs form the physical and biological backbone of the area and accommodate over one thousand species of fish. If you’re lucky you can see whale sharks, manta rays, octopus and barracudas.
